100 Different Diseases, Some Symptoms of Arthritis

Posted on March 10th, 2008 in General by metal-and-stone

100 Different Diseases, Some Symptoms of Arthritis

The Meaning of Arthritis

Joint inflammation is what arthritis means. Arthritis encompasses a wide variety of diseases and is not a single disease.

Today there are many rheumatic diseases and other conditions that are called arthritis. In fact there are over a 100 and all of them will cause pain, stiffness and swelling of the joints.

The time that joints are starting to get damaged is when it is said that you have arthritis. Most of us realize that this condition affects the older population. Each of the different forms of arthritis all have there own cause.

What do they have in common, 100 different diseases

What you are going to find that all the different forms of arthritis have in common is that pain is the number one answer. This pain is going to be located in different areas as well as feeling different to all of the individuals.

Some symptoms of arthritis to warn you of possible problems

Swelling of your joints and stiffness are some of the signs and symptoms that you may be suffering from arthritis.

If you have one or more of the above symptoms for two weeks or more, you need to go and talk to your doctor. You need to go and have these warning signs and/or symptoms diagnosed and treated.

I am not going to go into all of the different types of arthritis and their symptoms. What I am going to do is list a few for you, and I will do another article that will list many others. So here are a few types of arthritis and the symptoms that are associated with them.

Osteoarthritis - what you will find is that the pain is worse at night or after rest. Osteo arthritis is a degenerative joint disease that results from wear and tear. Some of the symptoms of this are:

decreased function in the affected joint tenderness to the touch pain in the affected area swelling around the joint where pain is being felt

When you are suffering from osteo arthritis, to tell initially may be tough. The onset is subtle and a gradual type thing. This is going to be one joint or several joints that can become affected and those joints may be the following:

spine area your hands hips become sore hard on the knees

Rheumatoid - you are going to feel the most pain during the morning. If this happens in children and/or the elderly then the pain may not be as pronounced. Now sometimes there are going to be cases when certain limbs don’t want to function.

When you are suffering from Rheumatoid arthritis you are suffering from an auto immune disease. What is happening is the body is attacking itself. This can be a chronic and a disabling problem and can cause the following:

stiffness joint pain swelling loss of joint function

The cause of rheumatoid arthritis remains elusive. Doctors believe that there could be something genetic involved with this. Rheumatoid arthritis in the beginning stages can be difficult to diagnose because again this is gradual and has subtle symptoms.

Some of the other types of arthritis and by no means is this a complete list are the following. Gout and pseudogout, you have septic, as mentioned rheumatiod arthritis and don’t forget juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and also mentioned osteoarthritis, bursitis and there are many others that have not been mentioned.

The advances in medicine today have made treating the different types of arthritis many. You can use medicine prescribed by your doctor or even over the counter drugs and also arthroplasty and this is only a couple of ways to treat arthritis symptoms.

When joint pain is so severe that there may come a time when prosthetic joint replacement may become necessary. The people who have had this done are very satisfied with the results.

Arthritis has been around a long time. The first traces of arthritis dates back to 4500 B.C.

Dinosaurs have even had evidence to have had ankle osteoarthritis. The skeletal remains of Native Americans of Tennessee were noticed to have arthritis.

There may be a time in the future when a cure for arthritis will be found. But today we can just treat the symptoms of arthritis the best we can. To help the person have a better form of life is what the goal is today, by using drugs and other treatments. Time will tell if something happens out on the horizon, but for now there is no cure for arthritis but there are natural arthritis treatments that are available.

There are other ways to treat arthritis, other than the couple of ways that were mentioned in this article. I will write another one detailing some of the other methods that are available.

Today many people struggle because of some form of arthritis, so discover some Arthritis Prevention Tips right now and you can also discover how some of the Celebrities with Rheumatoid Arthritis make it.

HDTV Cables Give You the Full Picture

Posted on March 10th, 2008 in General by metal-and-stone

HDTV Cables Give You the Full Picture

To Get the Best Video Quality Possible, You Need HDTV Cables.

You have your brand new HDTV (high definition television) set, and figure you are well on your way to watching television shows and movies in glorious high definition. What you do not know is that there may be a problem that will prevent you from watching 1080p content, and instead your brand new $2,000 television will not look much better than the old standard-definition one it just replaced.

What many people do not realize is that they also need HDTV cables to watch their favorite content at full resolution, because they are using old cables which just do not cut it any more.

From Your HD Box to Your TV

Just because you have a high-definition cable or satellite box, or a Blu-ray Disc player, does not mean that you are watching it in beautiful, vivid 1080p resolution. The signal your box receives, or that which is included in Blu-ray Discs, does not necessarily get transferred to your television. First, you will need HDTV cables. Why? Simply put, older cables were quite ample for transferring video at the old standard of 480i. Higher resolutions need more bandwidth, and that is where HDTV cables come in.

Standards to Decide Between

When it comes to HDTV cables, there are several options you can choose from. HDMI (high definition media interface) and component HDTV cables are both great choices, although the latter is slowly being phased out in favor of HDMI. They both transmit 1080p content, but the way they do it is slightly different. HDMI cables transmit the data all in one stream, while component cables split the picture into three streams: red, green, and blue pictures which help split the bandwidth requirements up. Together, those three RGB pictures are pieced back together by the television to form the picture you actually see.

DisplayPort is a new standard that is the biggest competition for HDMI right now. There are no significant benefits to using DisplayPort over HDMI, and the competition between two competing standards has caused some consumer confusion. Fortunately, most electronics that support DisplayPort also support HDMI, as HDMI is the most prominent. When you are looking at the purchase of the electronics themselves, just make sure that all (e.g., the HDTV, the cable or satellite box, and the Blu-ray Disc player) support the same HDTV cables, either DisplayPort or HDMI.

However, HDTV cables are not limited to video alone. While some HDMI cables also transmit audio, most audio enthusiasts feel that separate cables sound batter. To get crystalline sound for you audiophiles out there, you will also need to get high definition audio cables.

Most cables can deliver great sound in two channels (most commonly left and right, although surround sound will also likely include one cable for the center channel and the subwoofer), and these are often delivered over analog cables although digital cables are becoming more popular. Both will deliver great sound, but you will need several of them for a surround sound system.

Keep it Clean

With all these cables running behind your HDTV set and over to your stereo system, you will want to organize them. Use twist-ties or zip ties to group the like ones together, which will keep the area behind your HDTV and other electronics cleaner. This will also help whenever you move components, since you will not be left with a big mess to sort through.

Troubles With Ankle Tendonitis Rest is The Answer

Posted on March 10th, 2008 in General by metal-and-stone

Troubles With Ankle Tendonitis - Rest is The Answer

You need to make sure that you take care of your feet. They are going to be carrying you around for many years to come. Any pain or swelling that you are feeling in that ankle area could be a sign that you may be developing ankle tendonitis.

We will talk about what you can do to help prevent tendinitis in ankle and some background information.

Runners and joggers can get into a training mode that can be sometimes hard on their ankles. This also can happen to people who have jobs that required them being on their feet constantly. What can happen is that you may start to develop tendonitis in your ankles.

What is tendonitis? It is really just an inflammation of the tendon. The tendon is used to connect the bone to the actual muscle. What happens sometimes if the tendon gets overworked or you may put too much force on a particular tendon you could develop tendonitis.

Some symptoms of tendonitis are swelling, pain and the area that is swollen is tender to the touch. It could be difficult to move the ankle without a shooting pain going from the ankle to the calf.

There is another similar tendonitis which is called Achilles tendonitis. This is the inflammation of the Achilles tendon and this is very common form of ankle tendonitis. These two types of tendonitis occur in runners and people on there feet a lot.

What can you do about Ankle Tendonitis

Now let’s talk a bit about what you can do at home if you are suffering a mild case of ankle tendonitis. One thing that will work wonders is to use an ice pack. A bag of frozen pea’s can work great for this. You want to use the ice for 15 minutes at a time. Wrap your ankle if you need to be on your feet, this will help support the ankle and keep it in place and help prevent further injury.

Another method that doctor’s sometimes prescribe is a cortisone injection. They are not to much in favor of this in the ankle because the tendon can rupture very easy. You can also put a cushion in your shoe and this is going to help support the foot and possibly keep you somewhat pain free during activity.

Everyone realizes that your feet are a vital part of your body. If you can, you want to keep them injury free and that includes ankle tendonitis or you could have permanent injury.

If you start to feel pain or swelling in your ankle and you have had ankle tendonitis in the past, you need to try and not over do it. One thing that you may want to do is to talk to a physical therapist or even an orthopedic doctor to learn how to not injure or learn to maneuver your feet during physical activity. This will help prevent further damage. If you can, get off your feet and give them a chance to rest.

Do you suffer from Ankle Tendonitis or other types, stop by our website. Learn more about Achilles Tendonitis and many other types. You will be happy you dropped by.

Hair Loss in Females What Causes Female Hair Loss And What You Can Do To Prevent It

Posted on March 10th, 2008 in General by metal-and-stone

Hair Loss in Females: What Causes Female Hair Loss And What You Can Do To Prevent It

Hair isn’t described as a woman’s crowning glory for nothing. Hair is often a physical attribute that can make a woman look more or less attractive, and it is one of the reasons why women are greatly affected when they realize they are suffering from it.

Hair Loss in Females and Androgenetic Alopecia

Androgenetic alopecia is the most common cause of hair loss in females. It begins with noticeably hair thinning especially at the top and side areas of the scalp. An estimated one-third of susceptible females suffer from female alopecia or female-patterned baldness. This type of hair loss occurs usually when women are in their postmenopausal stages but there are unfortunate instances when they take place at puberty stage.

With female alopecia, the only time you should start worrying is when hair shedding has exceeded 125 hair strands per day or when your body stops reproducing hair strands to replace what has fallen out. With regard to genetics, loss of hair in females may come from either parent.

Anagen Effluvium and Telogen Effluvium

Anagen effluvium refers to the type of female hair loss wherein hair strands haven’t yet reached the final stage of their life cycle. Nevertheless, certain agents, usually medications that are administered internally, poison and eventually cause the death of still-growing hair follicles.

Telogen effluvium, on the other hand, refers to the type of female hair loss wherein there are more hair strands reaching the telogen stage than what’s usual. Telogen effluvium may be caused by a number of things:

Stress

Stress is not only caused by psychological factors. It may be caused by an unnatural physical condition as well such as having just undergone surgery and experiencing the changes it wrought on your body. Stress can also be a symptom of crash dieting, anemia, and various kinds of illnesses.

Of course, emotional and psychological factors inducing stress can also lead to excessive loss of hair. Grieving over the death of a loved one or experiencing a mental illness can both make the problem worse.

Medications

There are a number of medications and treatments that may require the individual to lose their hair albeit only temporarily. If you are suffering from high blood pressure, medications for your condition may also be a cause and medications for gout also have the same symptom. Lastly, take extra care with medications containing great quantities of Vitamin A as these can also induce hair loss.

Hormones

Women who are undergoing menopause – or experiencing pre-menopausal or postmenopausal symptoms – as well as those who are taking birth control measures and are pregnant are all vulnerable to hair loss. This is due to the hormonal changes or abnormalities their bodies are being subjected to.

Of course, once the underlying cause of telogen effluvium is addressed and effectively resolved then hair will generally start to return to normal.

Frequent Shampooing as a Mythical Cause for Hair Loss in Females

Although harsher or stronger chemicals in shampoo products are sometimes blamed for loss of hair, frequency of shampooing is generally not a problem and cannot cause hair loss. Shampoos may loosen up some of your hair strands and cause you to shed more than usual, but affected hair strands are those already in the telogen stage and would have fallen out eventually. Either way, they will still be replaced by your body.

Personal Finances Treat Yourself Like a Business

Posted on March 10th, 2008 in General by metal-and-stone

Personal Finances - Treat Yourself Like a Business

Why would you not consider yourself a business of ONE person? Or your family as a business of 3 or more people? Well that is exactly what you are - “Me Incorporated”, “I Inc”, “We Incorporated”. You truly must consider yourself a small family business. Like any business you have ongoing expenses (mortgage, rent, utilities, groceries), revenue (salary and other income) and major capital expenditures (house, vehicle, vacations, renovations).

Like any good ‘household business’, you need to do some planning. Set out a budget for the year, track your expenditures and retained earnings (savings). Yes, all of this looks, feels and is exactly like a well run business. On My Gosh! Don’t rush out and buy an accounting package to run your household. And no need to take a crash course on accounting or bookkeeping. You can accomplish all your financial tracking and planning requirements with some paper or by using a simple template with your favorite spreadsheet package - Microsoft Excel or even with Open Office.

Just like a well run business, your household budget and tracking your spending is best served using a visible record of events; namely, financial records, bank or check register. It is just like tracking your road trip progress using a map. If you know where you are now, then you will have some idea when you will arrive at your destination. In life, money or finances allows you to get to your personal destinations or dreams. A visible financial roadmap of your ‘Me Incorporated’ finances, mapping your progress, seems logical.

Running your ‘Household Business’, like corporate business, requires a few processes to keep track of your finances:

1) Establish a yearly and monthly household budget. Consider all your expenses - weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly outlays of money. You will be surprised at the length of this list and all the places you spend your money.

2) Track monthly your actually spending and income against the budget you established in step 1. This will help you see the ‘peaks and valleys’ of spending or seasonality aspect of your expenses. Over time, you will come to know these expense ‘peaks and valleys’ and this will help you maintain a positive cash flow. Bottom line: have money in the bank to pay all your expenses and still have some left over (retained earnings). Your single biggest challenge in running any household (or business) is always having enough money in the bank to pay the bills; especially, the unexpected ones. Having a buffer of savings will help with these ‘peaks’ in expenses.

3) Track all your bank account activity. Track and enter in your Bank or Check Register every deposit, every electronic (ATM, web, PayPal, debit machine) transaction and every analog (check, money order) withdrawal. And reconcile your bank statement every month. Know exactly how much money you have available in your bank account(s).

4) Especially track your spending through credit cards and lines of credit. These are potentially the ‘run away’ expenses. Remember only once a month do you see the visible record of your credit card spending. Compound that with the fact that most people have more than one credit card. This can easily result in multiple ’spending surprises’ each month. Be diligent in tracking your use of credit card transactions. Breakdown the credit card expenses into their respective budget items - gas, groceries, clothing, entertainment, etc. This will help you separate normal household expenditures from other shopping incidentals. You will come to see your spending patterns and can now make adjustments. Just like your bank account, reconcile your credit card statement every month.

All this personal bookkeeping every month can be done with pen and paper or set up a personal finance and budgeting template using your favorite spreadsheet software. Using an electronic spreadsheet allows for all of the mundane calculations to be processed automatically, reducing monthly reconciliations to a simple 5-10 minute endeavour. Whether you choose an analog or digital approach to your personal finance bookkeeping, these visible records are the most effective way to plan and control your personal finances and reduce one of the major stress points in your life - Your Financial Health.

Where to Get Cheap Homeowners Insurance Quotes in Rhode Island

Where to Get Cheap Homeowners Insurance Quotes in Rhode Island

It’s 1,400 miles from New Orleans to Rhode Island, but Rhode Islanders are feeling the effects of Hurricane Katrina as insurers raise prices for homeowners insurance, cancel policies, and refuse new business. So is it still possible to find cheap homeowners insurance quotes in Rhode Island? Yes. Here’s how …

Some Background

Rhode Island hasn’t been struck by a significant hurricane since Hurricane Bob in 1991. However, millions of dollars in losses caused by hurricanes in the South have made insurers wary. In addition, weather forecasters predict the Northeast is overdue for a major hurricane. With over 400 miles of coastline, Rhode Island has been particularly hit by rising insurance prices, with prices increasing by 10 to 15%.

Keeping Costs Down

With insurance costs rising, it’s important to do everything possible to keep your costs down. You can’t control the path of a hurricane, but some factors you can control include:

* Hurricane-proofing your home by installing stronger garage doors, impact-resistant windows, and hurricane shutters. Talk to an insurance professional about what you need to do to your home to make it safer from hurricanes.

* Setting your deductible high. The deductible is the amount you pay toward a claim before the company begins to pay. The higher you set your deductible, the lower your premium will be. Note that you may have a separate deductible for wind damage.

* Shopping around. Insurance costs vary dramatically from company to company, so shopping around is essential to help you get the best rate.

The easiest way to shop rates is to visit an insurance comparison website. On these websites you type in your insurance information, and then multiple A-rated insurance companies email quotes for you to review and compare.

On the best comparison websites, you can also talk with insurance professionals online or by phone to get answers to your homeowners insurance questions (see link below).

Visit http://www.LowerRateQuotes.com/homeowners-insurance.html or click on the following link to get Rhode Island homeowners insurance quotes from top-rated companies and see how much you can save. You can get more tips and advice in their Articles section.

The authors, Brian Stevens and Stacey Schifferdecker, have spent 30 years in the insurance and finance industries, and have written a number of articles on getting cheap homeowners insurance quotes in Rhode Island.

How Can You Use Niche Affiliate Marketing To Make Money

Posted on March 10th, 2008 in General by metal-and-stone

How Can You Use Niche Affiliate Marketing To Make Money

A number people go on the Internet today wanting to start an Internet business but not really knowing how to go about doing that. One idea that is worth looking at is known as a niche affiliate marketing.

What is niche affiliate marketing? Affiliate marketing is when you sell other people’s products for a percentage of the price. The niche part is when you sell products that are out of the mainstream.

With niche marketing you are targeting specific people to sell to. For example, you can sell a guide to dog owners about how to stop your pet from barking. So when you combine niche marketing and affiliate marketing it means that you are selling a product that is targeted to a certain group of people that already want what you are selling.

So how do you find products that you can promote for niche affiliate marketing? There are a few different ways you can find products to sell on the Internet.

One: Figure out what your interests are and find a product that interests you that you know other people want for a specific reason.

It is much easier to sell a product that people already want than it is to create a demand for that product. Google Trends is one place you can see what is being searched according to Google.

Two: You can go to your local bookstore and look at the magazines to come up with great niches you can use for niche affiliate marketing.

Magazines always have what is hot. This makes sense because they have to sell subscriptions and staying current is one reason we still read magazines in spite of the popularity of the internet.

Three: Do some research online. There are many sites that you can find such as forums, where people will flat out say what they need.

Even if they don’t you can figure it out by doing some reading on these sites because many times it will not be obvious and you will have to search for it. Start by Google searching a keyword and then look at some of the top results.

Many of the really good websites have blogs that offer all kinds of insight into what is going on in a niche. You can quickly get ideas for your own website or blog in regards to an affiliate marketing niche.
